“I don’t care what people think.”

A huge part of the process of moving abroad is hearing the judgment and doubts from everyone. “Why would you give everything up and move overseas?” “What if you don’t like it?” “Why would you do it with a baby?” “You’re leaving your dogs, right?” “What about the culture there? They have no freedoms like we do!”

If I could count on my fingers how many times people tried to convince me not to move abroad or tell me I was crazy and making a rash/dumb decision, I would need multiple hands. People seem to enjoy putting their hesitations and inabilities on other people just because they wish they could be brave enough to take that same leap of faith. What I learned is, you have to “block out the haters”. Do not let them cast doubt in your mind. Stay focused on the goal and the fresh start. Show them otherwise.

Moving abroad is not just a matter of selling your things, gathering what’s left, and booking a one way flight. There are a lot of psychological challenges that come with moving abroad that no one ever tells you. People only show the good and “easy” side of moving abroad. No one ever tells you there are nights you cry. There are nights those doubts others had come into your mind. There are nights you question if you are making the right choices for yourself and your family. That’s normal. That is all a part of the process. You have to go thru those emotions and those uncomfortable feelings to get to the blissfulness of starting over in a new country.

If you can get past those dark and eerie emotions and feelings, you will wish you made the decision to move abroad sooner.

I always tell myself that life is short. There is no such thing as the “right time” or the “perfect time”. If you believe that, you will never move forward in life. You have to just take the leap of faith. You cannot overthink. You have to of course do your research and due diligence, but that is just common sense - you have to have a game plan.

So that brings me to blog #3… “The Game Plan”…
